Memorial Day

Memorial Day weekend was spent at my favorite place with my favorite people! Buffalo Lake with our family and friends:) Just a little history on this 'lake' that I am always talking about...Buffalo Lake is a small man made lake in Harnett County, NC. Taylor's grandfather, Vick Keith, made and developed Buffalo Lake (in the 1960's) and Carolina Lakes--which is where my Dad lives. Taylor's parents, his Aunt and my Aunt have houses on Buffalo Lake. We inherited a lot, along with the other grandchildren, and my dad recently purchased land there as well. My grandparents built a small log cabin (where my aunt now lives) and my parents and Taylor's parents grew up there in the summers and raised their children there as well. I have such wonderful memories with my family which includes swimming, skiing, tubing, cookouts, family gatherings, hanging out with friends, learning how to drive a boat, fourwheeling, having friends visit and the list goes on!
Eventually this lake brought Taylor and I together and we spent our first summer together there...falling in love:) We had our first date on his parents pier with some KFC. hehe
I love that when we go home we can enjoy and share this beautiful place with our children. Our families are great friends and live so close that it makes family gatherings and birthdays easy to celebrate...which is such a blessing.
Eventually, we would like to build our own house there and keep this wonderful place known to our children and grandchildren.
Back to Memorial Day...we went home and spent a lot of time with family. Had a cookout with my family and Taylor's. We did a lot of swimming and playing. We also went to one of my brother's best friends graduation party. He just graduated from ECU and he is like a little brother to me. We had a great time and the local band played and my dad and brother did a little performance.
It was a great weekend and I am looking forward to a fun summer!

I loved reading the history - how cool is that? Thanks for the details . . . including the KFC. Oh, the sweetness of the first date memories for us all! I wonder if Terry or Rainey's first dates will be on that same pier. If so, I bet you will be watching close;)
