A few months ago Taylor decided he was going to start the same running program that I did so he could do a 5k with me and to get in shape. I was so excited and thrilled that I could share this new passion of mine with him. We found out there was a 8k relay race in August and decided to run as a relay team. He hadn't completely finished the program when the race came along but he felt like he would do ok.
Along with Taylor our friends, Adam and Karen, started running too! I am so proud of them and the effort and determination they showed to train and complete a race!
Since Taylor and I were both running in the race our sweet babysitter got up super early and met us on ECU campus to watch the kids while we raced. I ran first alongside Melissa, Karen and Tammy. We started off super fast and finished our first mile in 9 minutes! We all got to our relayers-Amber, Adam and Taylor about the same time and then they were off!
I was sooo proud of Taylor when he crossed that finish line! He had such a sense of accomplishment and I did too! That is one of the greatest things about him--his determination and will power! He was asked by a friend recently to do a 10k with him in November and Taylor's response was "I'm retired". HAHA I don't think that is really the case but hopefully we can make that relay race a yearly tradition for us.
Congrats to Adam and Karen who were the overall relay winners and we came in second! Yayy to Melissa and Amber on completing the relay race too...they are awesome and such great support for me!
There was also a kids dash that Avery and Terry completed. It was a 100 yard dash and they were so excited about it. They stretched and raced around before to get ready:)
So, looks like running is going to be a family affair! My aunt and mother in law are doing a 5k with us in September!
